What is Faith?

Image
In a General Conference talk by Gordon B. Hinkley it states, “That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day” (D&C 50:23–24). And so it is with our eternal journey. We take one step at a time. In doing so we reach toward the unknown, but faith lights the way. If we will cultivate that faith, we shall never walk in darkness." Faith is believing in something that you don't know will happen. It is knowing, without proof, that something is true. I have faith that God is real, even though I have no proof of it. There is a primary song about faith that I really like. It goes like this: "1. Faith is knowing the sun will rise, lighting each new day. Faith is knowing the Lord will hear my prayers each time I pray. Faith is like a little seed: If planted, it will grow. Faith is a swelling within my heart. When I do right, I know. 2. Faith is

The Ability to Change

How many times have you thought, "I suck at this. I've tried over and over, but it just won't work." I know for a fact that I have. I have been thinking about myself and my problems so much that I just can't see the good. You have to see the little things in life that make a difference.  People have trials in life. It's a fact. But you can change so many perspectives. You can even, in some cases, change the outcome. People have agency.  That means that we get to choose what is best for us. We get the opportunity to see things differently. Sometimes a good attitude throughout a trial can change everything. You never know until you try... President Uchtdork once said: “It matters not how you became lost—whether because of your own poor choices or because of circumstances beyond your control. What matters is that you are His child. And He loves you. He loves His children.” Remember that, no matter what, he loves you. He wants the best for you, but no

Have I Done Any Good?

M. Russell Ballard said, "It is only when we love God and Christ with all of our hearts, souls, and minds that we are able to share this love with our neighbors through acts of kindness and service—the way that the Savior would love and serve all of us if He were among us today. When this pure love of Christ—or charity—envelops us, we think, feel, and act more like Heavenly Father and Jesus would think, feel, and act. Our motivation and heartfelt desire are like unto that of the Savior." The first commandment is to love God. The second is to love our neighbors. Did you know that when you serve others, you are serving God?  In the Book of Mormon, Mosiah 2:17 is says: "17 And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." Service doesn't have have to be some huge thing like volunteering at a homeless shelter. You can take c

How can you be a Light in the World?

Thomas S. Monson once said: "Unfortunately, for many that light with which all were endowed at birth has dimmed—in some cases almost to the point of being extinguished—as outside influences have come to bear and the sometimes harsh realities of life have been experienced. Ours is the responsibility to keep our lights aflame and burning brightly, that they might shine for others to see and follow." Life is all about attitude. You can have something bad happen to you, but whether or not that affects your life is up to you. You can choose to have a good attitude about a trial in you life. Instead of think, "Wow! I messed up super bad!" you can think along the lines of: "Okay, I made a mistake. But I know that I can do better next time." I have had countless situations in my life where I could either have a good or bad attitude. So many times I have chosen the latter. It is easy to get caught up with the hard trials in life. Want to change that? Sometimes

All About Me...

Hello! My name is Rebekah Payne. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am dedicated to creating a place that shows the good in the world. It is so easy to get caught up with all of the bad news around life. There are still good people in the world, and you can be one of them. I invite you to be a light in the world, and stand bright. Never give up on your values. Remember what you stand for and you will be a beacon of light for the people around you. John 8:16 in the Bible says, "No man, when he hath lighted a a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light." Shine bright, be a light, and remember who you are and what you stand for.
